2020 Virtual Sing Your Own Messiah – We Did It!

For years, the North Coast Chorale presented a Sing Your Own Messiah to benefit the CCA Regional Food Bank. In 2020, it looked like we might have to make some changes if we were going to continue the tradition. Covid-19 had made it so the Chorale could not meet as a complete choir to rehearse, our usual rehearsal venue was closed, and many of our members were not comfortable gathering as a group. What could we do?

Dr. Denise Reed, the Chorale director, took on the challenge. She contacted every choir member to see if they were comfortable enough to sing, organized and ran sectional rehearsals, found outdoor venues for rehearsal when the weather was good and then found an indoor venue when the weather turned cold, studied and learned how to conduct safe and healthy rehearsals, arranged for instrumentalists, worked with the videographer and made it possible for 13 singers and 4 instrumentalists to continue the tradition of Messiah virtually on the food bank website that people could view and donate through the month of December 2020.

Because of Dr. Reed’s efforts and the efforts of the NCC Board of Directors, the Chorale was able to help raise over $700 for the CCA Food Bank to help those in need.

Thank you to the CCA Regional Food Bank, the NCC Board of Directors, the singers and instrumentalists who participated and especially, Dr. Denise Reed, for all of your hard work!
